I have been photographing the natural world for over 30 years. My main interests are landscapes, close-ups, and still life.
My photographs are not intended to simply document. Rather, I strive to capture and convey the excitement of discovery, when a pattern, shape, or mood reveals itself. Often, images exclude elements that might reveal the scale or context of an image, rendering an abstract image.
For my fine art images, I work primarily with traditional photographic equipment and techniques, while utilizing the latest printing techniques for the best, archival quality images.
By using medium and large format film cameras, I am able to produce images with remarkable detail, and tonal quality, even in very large prints. Film photography is a link to the traditions of photography, and to the working practices of great photographers like Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Elliott Porter, my heroes.
I have worked in digital imaging for the last few years, and am gradually introducing fine art images from that medium. Only in the latest generation of cameras has the image quality approached that of my medium format film work. My workshops are film and digital friendly.
My images are in private and corporate collections, and are exhibited in juried art shows.
